In Venice…

ThNEW9Dudleye 9 Dudley Project & Venice artists celebrate the artist/curator Mark “Sponto” Kornfeld and owner of Sponto Gallery. Sponto passed away back in 2009, but affected so many people. He nurtured the creative spirit and local community in Venice for twenty four years.

If you lived in Venice in the past twenty years, you probably knew Sponto, a colorful character who hosted art parties and musical shows. He opened his gallery to everyone.

I performed there countless times and attended wonderful art shows and events at the always happening venue. There will be live music tonight …Peter Demian, Black Shoe Polish, the Backboners and more.

TheSat 8.24 SpontoLives gallery was the previous home of the infamous Venice West Cafe from 1958 to 1966, one of the birthplaces of a free-spirited literature and art movement. The Beats shared themes of spirituality, environmental awareness and political activism. Sponto felt the sacred ground bubbling up from the Beat roots, and extended it.

Artists include: Mark X Farina, Gerry Fialka, Lisa Green, Dave Healy, Barbara Mastej, Margaret Molloy, Andrea Wittenberg and more.

The 9 Dudley project is a collaborative effort between the Ross Akard Gallery and the Cadillac Hotel.
