LA is a city of commuters. We spend countless hours getting to and from our jobs. Dan Janotta’s interest is in these hours. The work reminds us to take everything in and see the beauty that is all around.

The figures that Shelley Lazarus captures in this show are very personal to her. Models who have become friends over the years, family, or just people she may have met or seen and photographed on one of her many trips.
Artist Betty Sheinbaum’s current series, “Strike a Pose,” features acrylic studies on canvas with an emphasis on drawing and painting figures.

Artist Claudia Parducci deſtly navigates the border between humankind’s elevated worldview and its destruction and collapse. Inside her work, we experience free fall; the foundation of what we believe begins to dissolve and the tools we use to situate those beliefs no longer apply.

Melinda Gibson received her B.A. in Photography at the London College of Communication and is an Associate Lecturer in Photography at the Camberwell College of Art & Nottingham Trent University.

Also in Santa Monica….

Sat-April-11-Gallery169.jpbGallery 169 is proud to announce the works of Nancy Vescovo. Nancy got her BFA at Pratt Institute in New York and furthered her education with a focus on drawing and painting at the Art Student’s League and School of Visual Arts also in New York.

In this show, Nancy Vescovo plays with the concepts of storytelling through portraiture, creating visual narratives about a diverse group of subjects that range from loved-ones to strangers. By encasing her images in resin and adding found objects or text in multiple layers built up on top of the surface of the paintings, Nancy creates modern fossils that reveal aspects of each individual and allows the viewer to consider the subject’s personal history.

Sat-April-11-ProhibitionProhibiton Gallery presents “The Telephone Game.” The premise of this group show is for different artists to uncritically engage and reinterpret each others work. 49 different artists, paired into groups of 4-5 people, were asked to spend one week on a piece, and then pass it blindly on to the next artist in their group, who would then build off what they were given.

At the end, 12 unique pieces were created, and Prohibition Gallery is proud to showcase them. Please come see uninhibited collaboration at its finest, with artists participating from Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Boston.
