PRJCTLA @ CMAY Gallery, a brand new collaborative gallery initiative spearheaded by May Chung (CMay Gallery) and Carl Berg (PRJCTLA). On November 21, 2023, an art talk as well as an exhibition walk through will be held from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

This is the inaugural exhibition for this new partnership taking place on September 30, 2023. The gallery will showcase the work of Los Angeles-based artist China Adams in a solo exhibition titled Concrete & Revolutions.

Concrete & Revolutions, China Adams 

Adams’ Concrete & Revolutions brings together two distinct yet interconnected bodies of work. Intricate drawings of repeated organic revolutions as well as sculpture built from discarded freeway concrete and the artist’s own detritus. The work invites contemplation on the movement of time, the power of repetition, and transformation of the mundane.

Rendered through similar, repeated gestures,  Adams’ intricate drawings, reflect on rhythm, time, and a creative mark making process that unfolds in reaction to each previous gesture. Her meticulous organic forms invite consideration on relentless repetition and the willingness to engage time at a slow, studied pace.

Using discarded concrete fragments and personal cast-offs, Adams’ sculpture gives new life to discarded materials. In addition, the artist transforms various materials. Each item has its own history and meaning. Adams then turns them into objects that evoke a sense of rebirth. These new forms of life can be awkward and also even monstrous.
