April 8, 2015, Los Angeles, CA – TMOPLA-Logohe third/fourth week of the 7th annual Month of Photography LA (MOPLA) promises a wide range of contemporary photography events, exhibitions, discussions and more, in a diverse array of traditional and non-traditional settings.

Thursday, April 16: A Day in the Life of Miles Davis by Glen Craig & New Works by Jesse Diamond – at the Leica Gallery Los Angeles.

Saturday, April 18: #_Mass by Carson Davis Brown, presented by Building Bridges Art Exchange and Month of Photography Los Angeles. #_Mass is a photography exhibition of work created inside of “Big Box’ stores without permission using found materials within each location. The works are made, photographed and left to be experienced by the passersby, and ultimately disassembled by location staff.

BuidingBridges-MOPLAAlso Saturday, April 18: Josue Castro – ‘Pure Hedonism. Hedonism Pure’ is an official MOPLA Exhibition, presented by Building Bridges Art Exchange in collaboration with the National Council for Culture and Arts Mexico, Tijuana Cultural Center, and the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego. Castro invites prominent chefs of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico, Javier Plascencia, Ryan Steyn, Drew Deckman, Karla Navarro, Giannina Galvadon, Bianca Castro, Monica Palafox and Hugo D’Acosta among others to pose in a series of photographs creating a gratifyingly tense dialogue about human nature.

Sunday, April 19: Focus Iran: Contemporary Photography and Video Juror and Artists Discussion -Join exhibition juror Cat Jimenez, Co-Founder of Month of Photography Los Angeles, and a group of exhibiting artists for a conversation about the development of the exhibition and the works on display. Participating artists are: Sohrab Akhavan, Grace Oh, Mehdi Hawaii Sardehaii, Marjan Vayghan, and Siamak Nasiri Ziba. This program is sponsored by Farhang Foundation at the Craft & Folk Art Museum.

Also Sunday April 19: Snapshots of the Southbay, a featured MOPLA Exhibition. Local photographers display images depicting daily life in the South Bay, including Melissa Richardson Banks, Jon Berry, Arlene P. Carley, and Richard Podgurski. Phantom Galleries Hawthorne is part of Phantom Galleries LA, which revitalizes and energizes communities and pedestrian thoroughfares by transforming unoccupied properties throughout Los Angeles County into vibrant cultural hubs. Thursday April 23: Analogue ProjeAesthiaStudio-MOPLAct 2015 -Aesthesia Studios, in partnership with Month Of Photography Los Angeles, The Analogue Project 2015 is a photography contest designed to re-inspire by embracing shooting on film.

Saturday April 25: iWitness Public Art Installation / Genocide Centennial is a temporary public art intervention commemorating the centennial of the Armenian Genocide of 1915. iwitness is made up of an inter-connected network of photographic sculptures to be installed on three different tiers at the Music Center and Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles. iwitness draws its material from the archives of The Genocide Project, founded by photographers Ara Oshagan and Levon Parian and activist Garen Yegparian honoring the last eyewitnesses of the Armenian Genocide.

Sunday, April 26: A special afternoon preview (3-6pm) of “Late Night with David Letterman: History Discovered.” Created to be used on-air for NBC’s Late Night with David Letterman, a curated selection of the original, one-of-a-kind “Bumpers” will be auctioned off through Santa Monica Auctions on Sunday, May 31, 2015 starting at 12pm.

From Sun-April26-MOPLA-SMAuctions1982-1992, Marc Karzen photographed a series of slice-of-life-moments that punctuated segments, introduced guests and branded this historic ground breaking show. This unique collection of artwork was thought to be missing and has never been displayed or viewed by the public until now.
