afterimage

The definition of an afterimage is a visual sensation occurring after stimulation by its external cause has ceased. In this exhibition, the artists focus on the optical and purely visual presentation of their practice. Afterimage is juried by Walter Maciel, of the Walter Maciel Gallery.

Solo Exhibitions

Palmer Earl

Illuminations by Palmer Earl is a collection of paintings inspired by medieval Illuminated manuscript paintings. Earl uses bright colors and intricate floral motifs in addition to gold accents. Most paintings adhere to the small format of the original paintings while others are on large canvases. The subject matter is derived from research in to ancient cultures with attention to ancient religions that had female deities.

Rob Grad

Rob Grad’s new exhibit There’s Nothing Here, Except Everything combines photography, painting, poetry along with music. The artwork is three dimensional, and contrasts vignettes of desert landscapes as well. This symbolizes a thirst for making a connection with the divine. The artist also uses references to graffiti and street art, and a desire to make a “mark” on the world.

Margaret Raab

Margaret Raab is a contemporary realistic oil painter as well. Her work evolves from an interest in merging traditional imagery and techniques with contemporary subjects. Sweet Stuff was created to depict a subject matter that was light-hearted, along with being visually pleasing and technically challenging. Thus making the exhibition sustainable, yet also entertaining.
