Maggie Michael

This is Maggie Michael’s debut exhibition on the west coast as well as with the gallery. Her paintings radiate both power and delicacy, shifting between ferocious energy and dreamlike allure. Widely regarded as one of Washington, D.C.’s leading painters, her works showcase abstraction’s transformative potential. Her art reveals capricious moments, evolving forms, and processes inspired by American abstract expressionism’s history and vitality.

Michael explores humanity and nature’s duality—our ability to nurture and destroy—while emphasizing form and painterly strategy. Over 25 years, she has developed a distinct visual language that unfolds like a dynamic sequence. Her paintings merge expressive brushstrokes with precise shapes, blending ink, acrylic, latex, spray paint, and oil.

Using found objects like pine needles, feathers, and shells, she creates richly textured works evoking visceral reactions. Michael’s art reveals fresh perspectives, offering novel interpretations of natural elements. Her works transcend physical realms, drawing from deep feelings, poetic memories, and musings on earth’s cyclical nature. Through every brushstroke and canvas rotation, Michael seeks to understand existence and the human experience.

Margaret Morgan

Margaret Morgan’s solo exhibition features text-based installations and works on paper. The LA-based artist draws inspiration from Jean-Luc Godard’s Pierrot le Fou, where Rimbaud’s “love reinvented” challenges societal norms. Aware of women’s multifaceted roles, she aligns this concept with motherhood instead of opposing it. Morgan describes domesticity and mothering as creative acts—improvisational, performative, and transformative, turning brokenness into treasures.

Moreover art emerges from Griffith Park walks and pareidolia, finding patterns in random objects. She transforms found twigs resembling letters, quotes from classic literature, as well as affirmations, into her unique visual language. Morgan’s work highlights overlooked value in daily life—hiking, caregiving, salvaging—to evoke emotions, language, and sensory experiences from fleeting moments.
