As part of MOPLA, (Month of Photography Los Angeles), Bleicher/Gorman (bG) Gallery Bergamot and Glass Garage Gallery present the second part of the Art of the Spectacular Series, Photography of the Spectacular, an exhibit of visionary photographers capturing and creating spectacle in their work.
The opening took place earlier this month…
Here’s what the two galleries have to say….The exhibition will include work by x-ray artist Nick Veasey, artist and musician Moby, and photographer Garret Suhrie, acclaimed for his time lapse photographs of airplane flight patterns.
The spectacle is now a major part of mainstream film and video games but has its roots in fine art, particularly romantic and surrealist compositions. Art has influenced scenes of the spectacular in contemporary film and video games and these new medias have, in turn, influenced scenes of spectacle in contemporary visual art works.

The photographers in this exhibit represent the culmination of this cycle, calling upon past influence and internal psychology to create works of awe and inspiration through spectacle.
bG Bergamot is located across from iKon Ltd, next to Hiromi Paper in the prestigious Bergamot Station gallery complex. bG Gallery specializes in artists who have blurred boundaries between traditionally divided art approaches in their work with a particular emphasis on bridging highbrow and lowbrow divides.
Photographer Scott Tansey features a photograph from his Rose series…. it’s gorgeous!
He told me what inspired the series. “Unlike this year, 2011 had plenty of rain. The phrase “April Showers bring May Flowers” is true. I always have thought that roses are so sensuous. So, I walked around the neighborhood, went to the Exposition Park Rose Garden and Desconsas Gardens in La Canada. There I was able to take images of roses right after a rainstorm with natural water drops.
