The Hollywood Bowl presents Gladys Knight, the empress of soul on August 16, 2023. The talented vocalist Peabo Bryson will open the evening which kicks off at 8pm. Gates open at 6pm. This performance is part of the LA Phil’s Jazz Plus series at the Bowl, which offers an eclectic trip through the world of jazz, blues, R&B and beyond. Knight is a legendary performer and icon. Known best for “Midnight Train to Georgia,” it was one of the most celebrated songs of the 20th century. She’s also had number one hits in pop, gospel, R&B, and adult contemporary, as well as seven Grammy wins.
In addition to being a solo artist and with The Pips, she’s been bringing audiences to their feet for over 50 years, with hits like “If I Were Your Woman,” “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me,” “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” and so many more.
Peabo Bryson is a two-time Oscar® and GRAMMY® winner and has amassed an international fan base, critical acclaim, gold albums and an avalanche of accolades as a composer and vocalist.
The vocalist/composer offers a timeless mix of pop and soul from chart-topping hits such as “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” and “Can You Stop the Rain” to award-winning duet collaborations on Disney’s Academy Award®- winning Best Original Songs, “Beauty and the Beast,” which he performed with Celine Dion, and “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme),” with Regina Belle.
