Simchowitz is pleased to present three simultaneous solo shows featuring work by Sydney Cortright, Flora Hauser and Jasmine Little in its DTLA location (727 East Washington Blvd. LA, CA 90021), with an opening reception on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5-8pm. The exhibitions will remain on view through May 18, 2023.

The Artists

For her first solo exhibition, Scale Wing, Sydney Cortright presents large scale acrylic, india ink, and Flashe-on-muslin paintings, as well as smaller scale watercolor-on-paper pieces, all inspired by, and named after, butterflies. The stunning, complex pieces call to mind numerous of the artist’s influences, from Henri Rousseau to Helen Frankenthaler to Ryuki Tanaka.

For Only Live Once, Flora Hauser’s first exhibition at Simchowitz Gallery, the artist presents thirteen works delicately rendered using combinations of graphite, colored pencil, oil paint, and oil stick on canvas. In the minimal Variations of Circles, 2021, four interconnected rings conjoin to create an ant-like creature.

For Jasmine Little’s first solo exhibition at the gallery titled Above Ground, work from across the artist’s practice has been selected to exhibit in a unique curatorial configuration—paintings and ceramic vessels chock full of visual references ranging from California petroglyphs to medieval manuscripts to Dutch still-life paintings to Picasso.
