Well it’s the Fourth of July….and how are you going to celebrate? Well I’ve got some ideas for you right here.
Get into the spirit early with a 9:30 am start of the 6th annual 4th of July Parade down Main Street.
Wow I can’t believe it’s 6 years already….It is a bit hokey and last year, I can attest was a bit slim, but if you are nearby walk or ride your bike, pop by to enjoy the sights.
Don’t even think about driving (if you do not wish to pay for it) as there will be NO parking on Main. See their site for Street closures too….Traffic on the Westside is usually insaane today and tonight….so be prepared.
The parade is presented by the Ocean Park Association and this year’s theme is Science and Tecnology. It starts at the Civic center and heads south on Main, then wraps around to Pacific. See their website for more details and parking.

Also in Santa Monica….but starting a bit later are two events in Santa Monica benefitting the Surfrider Foundation!
Celebrate Independence Day and help protect our oceans with “Red White & Brew” Bar Crawl” and the
Main Street July 4th BBQ Bash at 31Ten Lounge. There is admissiont to these events….Tickets available here.
Main Street July 4th BBQ Bash will feature BBQ will include delicious food, drink specials, a beer garden and DJs spinning 2pm-12am. Early registration tickets are $10 in advance and $20 at the door. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation to help protect our oceans. Donations will also be accepted at check-in.

Now let’s talk fireworks…..yes you can always stay home and make your own fireworks with your honey or brave the crowds preferably in your neighborhood. Here are some fun ones, that I have been to before.

Pacific Palisa
des hosts a parade at 2 p.m. along Sunset Blvd. Perfect if you know someone who’s house you can hang out in then go enjoy the fireworks show at Palisades Charter High School with entertainment starting at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks at 9 p.m. $6 at the gate. You don’t have to pay to watch the fireweorks…the fee is for the concert at the high school. Just stand outside the gate. www.palisadesparade.org

For a more community driven event, You’re all invited to an ALL-DAY, LIVE ALL-STAR JAZZ JAM with BODACIOUS BBQ on the 4th of July.
Terry Braverman (see photo with jazz singer Rose Gales) will be sittin’ in some on harmonica with some of the great local jazz and blues players!
