LAUNCH LA presents the TARFEST 10 Year Anniversary Art Exhibition 2003-2012. The retrospective exhibition is curated by Holly Harrison the Curatorial Administrator for Contemporary Art at LACMA and will feature art from 35 of the 225 artists from the past nine years of TARFEST Juried Exhibitions.

The work will include sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, photography and video.

Or in Venice….Every third Thursday is the Venice Art Crawl. Modeled afater the Downtown Art Walk, VAC is in its third year and still building steam.

At Sunny Bak Studio, a spoken word installation will be featured along with a critically acclaimed Latina lesbian comedian and writer Monica Palacios (see pix), performing poems, puns, and porn.

Comedian Cathryn Michon is reading from her novel “The Grrl Genius Guide to Sex (With Other People)…”. Venice regular, poet James Berkowitz, will do a poetic reading and performance. Venice actress, model and filmmaker Nana Ghana will also read the poetry of Sapphire. The audience becomes part of the the installation via an open mic performance.

Artists Venice Hopper will be in person, silk screening T shirts with their iconic stenciled images The public can also bring their own objects/items and have them printed.

In the Canal Club back room, Luminous is presenting the work of Los Angeles based travel photographer Mark Edward Harris. He recently documented the aftermath of the tsunami landscape in Japan. He covered over 1200 miles by car driving from Tokyo through Fukushima to Sendai, where waves up to 23 feet engulfed the coastline.

There are images of Miyako, Taro, Jodogahama, Kamaishi, Kesennuma, Ofunato, Otsuchi , where half of the town’s 15,000 residents are either dead or missing. This unsettling series of images remind us that Venice is a tsunami zone and that we are not immune.
