On September 9, 2023, bG Gallery participates in the Bergamot Station Fall Open with two exhibitions. An art party will be held for a solo exhibition by Thomas Whittaker Kidd, as well as a Unusual Surfaces, a group show. The exhibition runs through September 26, 2023. Thomas Whittaker Kidd

I could Float for Days is a solo exhibition by Thomas Whittaker Kidd. Featuring a new body of work, the artworks are a unique blend of abstraction as well as figuration. This is evident through loose, kinesthetic use of paint creating ambiguous yet mimetic scenes. Additionally, the exhibition has a unique component, an extension to experiences in the artist’s studio.

Unusual Surfaces Artists

Also on view is a group show titled Unusual Surfaces. This exhibition celebrates radical creativity from a diverse group of contemporary artists rejecting traditional fine art surfaces in favor of atypical mediums. Moving beyond the standard canvas, images gain new depths. Featuring a dynamic selection of work from emerging and mid-career artists, this exhibition encourages divergent approaches to representation and meaning making.

Melissa Meier contemplates the relationship between spiritual connections to the natural world and the future of fashion with her sculptural clothing hybrids made from organic materials. Mike Stilkey extends the lives of discarded books by transforming them into sculptural totems featuring whimsically painted characters occupying ambiguous fantasy spaces.

Visualizing racialized lived experiences, Linda Vallejo invokes the unrecognized presence of essential workers in her Brown Bouquets. These Victorian style floral arrangements continue to symbolize privilege in contemporary cultural contexts. All of this continues as the class divide further widens in the United States.
