CAP UCLA presents Terri Lyne Carrington, New Standards on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 8pm. The performance takes place at Royce Hall.

Three-time Grammy Award winner and NEA Jazz Master, Terri Lyne Carrington has been heralded as a “true titan of jazz” by Forbes. Carrington’s latest project, New Standards, illuminates the works of women composers. The drummer will be backed by an all-star band. The performance features a lineup of special guests, including Ambrose Akinmusire, Ravi Coltrane, Dianne Reeves and more. From soulful ballads to experimental compositions, New Standards promises a night of unparalleled musical exploration.

Background

Carrington is not only an exceptional drummer but also a producer and educator. She began her career at the age of 10 in Boston. Carrington has dedicated her journey to phenomenal musicality and championing inclusivity in jazz.  Additionally, she elevates the voices of women, trans and non-binary individuals.

The Jazz Master serves as Founder and Artistic Director of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.  She is also Artistic Director for Next Jazz Legacy program, a collaboration with New Music USA. She has performed on more than 100 recordings over her 40-year career.  Carrington has toured as well as recorded with jazz luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Stan Getz, Esperanza Spalding and numerous others.
