In Santa Monica…

How bout some theater?

SaSun-Oct11-SMPlayhouse-Drempelsnta Monica Playhouse presents the World Premiere Rudie-DeCarlo musical DREMPELS: The Short But Happy Life of the Drempel Hieronymus Aloisius Plonk – A Musical Tale of Remembrance and Renewal

Internationally acclaimed Actors’ Repertory Theatre breathes life into dozens of characters, creatures and curiosities as they take you on an awe-inspiring journey rooted in old-world European story-telling and physical theatre peppered with sharp contemporary satire. “Drempels” is a tale of remembrance and renewal, but also a tale of warning. Look beneath the “cute” and you will see an alarming amalgam of past, present and future atrocities, set in a microcosmic society that frighteningly mirrors the macrocosm of our own foundering world. Playwright/song writers Rudie and DeCarlo (“Outstanding!” LA Times), bring their inimitable style of Gilbert and Sullivan patter, Klezmer melodies, and lilting ballads. Director Serena Dolinsky helms with her “surreal and wildly manic” (Tolucan Times) signature style.

General Admission: (Oct 17-Nov 29) $29.50; discounts for students, teachers, seniors, members of the military and groups of 8 or more.
