Artcore Brewery Annex celebrates two artists will share a passion for working with a variety of materials and forms.

From sculpture to drawing, asSun-Nov2-LAARTCORE-VAUGHAN FINNEGAN well as an invested interest in seeing a place for art in the public eye. Both artists are concerned about the separation between art and the people; at this time movies and digital media increasingly outweigh contemporary art in terms of public interest, and threaten to corner art into a territory belonging wholly to the elite.

James Patrick Finnegan creates involved, multi-dimensional pieces that combine objects and surfaces, shaping sculptural silhouettes as vehicles for drawings.

Philip Vaughan is an artist who produces works that lean heavily on the intersections of line.

Sun-Nov2-LAARTCORE TOKUNAGAL.A. Artcore is pleased to presenta solo exhibit By Tokyo-based artist Toko Tokunaga.

This is a chance to see abstract works of a high order with almost no premeditation in her process. Tokunaga paints to the painting’s end, yet, the painting’s limits are only a fragment itself of a much larger arena of information that compels Tokunaga.

With her refined technical knowledge, experience and training at Paris’ Ecole National Superiour de Beaux-Art Tokunaga’s paintings are structured in layers but admits that there is no rationale for how its elements come together and are guided only intuitively.

SSun-Nov2-2AGallery-JulieShaferee image by Julie Shafer

The images in Fireside Lounge to 41.296111, -105.515000 were created while driving the same path taken by two men in Laramie, Wyoming who kidnapped and murdered Matthew Shepard. The men enticed Shepard, an openly gay man, to follow them outside the Fireside Lounge where he was kidnapped, taken to a deer post five miles away, tied up, beaten, and left to die. He was found alive but unconscious the next morning by a cyclist who described his body as looking more like a scarecrow than a human. Matthew Shepard died in the hospital six days later.
