In Inglewood…Sun-Nov15-Inglewoodopenstudios

It’s the 9th Annual Inglewood Open Studios. Today is the 2nd and final day of the event.

Inglewood Open Studios is an artist run event is always fun (I’ve attended several times).

Artists will open their studios and very often additional artists come to participate. This year over thirty artists will be exhibiting work on this year’s tour, which runs through a string of galleries along La Brea Blvd, and branches off west towards La Tijera, east along Hyde Park, and as far south as Manchester Blvd.

Here is some info from the website: The first official Inglewood Open Studios occurred in November 2006, founded by artists Renee Fox and Kenneth Ober. It has since grown to a two day event and is held every second weekend in November and is organized by a group local artists, the nonprofit multidisciplinary organization, Inglewood Cultural Arts, Inc. and community members.

In Venice…

Sun-Nov15-TeamGal-RyanMcGinley-PeepersTeam (gallery, inc.) is pleased to announce a two-gallery show by New York-based artist Ryan McGinley, taking place at both its Grand Street and Venice Beach locations. Team (gallery, inc.) is located at 83 Grand Street, between Greene and Wooster, on the ground floor. Team (bungalow) is located at 306 Windward Avenue in Venice, CA.

Ryan McGinley, Peepers, 2015, c-print, 60 x 90 inches;152 x 229 cm edition of three
Over the years, Ryan McGinley’s camera has become more a tool for invention than documentation, conjoining the corporeal, narrative aspects of photography and cinema with their more orphic qualities. His images hover deliriously between reality and utopian fiction, characterized as much by apparent authenticity as obvious impossibility.

The Fall photos, which are on view in Los Angeles at 306 Windward Avenue, Venice, CA find art historical precedent and inspiration in the likes of Frederic Church and the Hudson River painters – Romantic landscapists working in the same region in which McGinley took these photos.

On view: November 15th – December 20th

What: Opening reception
Where: Team Gallery, 306 Windward Ave., Venice 90291
