Downtown…

“MeFri-Sun-July29-312016-Mercadorcado Los Olvidados,” loosely translated as the Lost Ones Market and borrowing inspiration from the surrealist Luis Buñuel’s film of the same name, is an annual artists’ popup market taking place, fittingly, in underground Downtown Los Angeles at pskaufman gallery.

Conceived and curated by Camille Rose Garcia and Pskaufman, Mercado Los Olvidados was created for the purpose of bringing artists and their communities directly together.

Foregoing the traditional artist/gallery model, by bringing multiple artists together and allowing them to show the depth of how their work can be interpreted, Mercado Los Olvidados hopes to change the way people think of art, while changing how the art that they purchase can be incorporated into their daily lives.

Mercado Los Olvidados will feature Custom Chainstitch Embroidery, Tin Type Portraits, and even Stick and Poke Tattooing, while offering fans a chance to meet and interact with their favorite artists.

Today’s event features a woodcut workshop ($20) with Bryn Perrott 3pm-4pm; Additional info and to purchase Tickets for Mercado Los Olvidados CLICK HERE

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Inner-City Arts LA, which provides artistic enrichment for students across socio-economic boundaries.

In the Venice….Mar Vista area….

Sun-July31-2016-cnicholsprojectsc.nichols projects celebrates a group show titled “Teens Choice” curated by by Drew Heitzler.

The teenager likes to be different, like everyone he likes to be like. As such the choices he flips through are kept under remote control. This is a good idea, as the teen age is a kind of converter, the teenager rebounding back and forth between extremes and short attention spans in an attempt to mix two segregated sides of parental identification into the assimilated identity of the group member.

Artists include Justin Beal, Bjorn Copeland, Stanya Kahn, Mike Kelley, Calvin Marcus, Will Milner, Carter Mull, Zak Smith, Bruce and Norman Yonemoto.
