It’s the final day of the photo la. Celebrating its 24th year, the event takes place at the REEF (previously called the LA Mart) in Downtown Los Angeles.

photo la serves as both a platform for the exhibition of photographic works, and as a medium for education and discussion with its outstanding programming of lectures, roundtables, docent tours, installations, and book signings – all helmed by artists, collectors, arts professionals and museum curators from the Getty, LACMA, and more.

Alongside these exceptional programs is an outstanding array of exhibited artwork -installations from Catherine Opie and the LA chapter of the American Photographic Artists, and over 50 exhibitor booths from a host of participating galleries, museums, universities, nonprofit organizations, dealers, and private collectors.

Its all at The REEF, the new name for the historic LA Mart building – the distinctive venue in Downtown Los Angeles. January is LA Arts Month, and the weekend of our fair coincides with the LA Art Show. photo la will be providing a shuttle between both fairs. The weekend of photo la is already shaping up to be the biggest weekend for the arts in LA in 2015.

C O L O R 2015: Release & Aspire – 2 Hr Watercolor Workshop
Culver City, CA, January 18th, 2015 — Paint Your Guts Out!® will paint inspiration into the New Year by offering a 2-Hour workshop combining coaching and intuitive watercolors.

Combining coaching with intuitive art can be a powerful tool for personal growth and inspiration. The “C O L O R 2015 Workshop” uses coaching techniques and intuitive art-making to help participants get clear about what they want to attract more of or have less of in 2015. “These wonderful hours will be devoted to inviting your intuitive side to show up and freely express. We will coax out inspiration and express boldly and bravely!” said Montine Blank

In the 2-hour session, participants take part in meditation and shared personal awareness exercises to clarify and commit to releasing all that didn’t serve in 2014 and listen for energy-giving goals going forward. The new goals are expressed as visual reminders with watercolors, chalk pastels, ink pens, and graphite.

In Venice…

Join Venice Arts for a gallery discussion led by artist Marissa Roth in conjunction with her One Person Crying: Women and War Exhibition.

Shot on film over the course of 29 years and covering twelve conflicts, this global photo essay addresses the immediate and lingering effects of war on women.

Roth states, “In an endeavor to reflect on war from what I consider to be an underreported perspective, the project brought me face to face with hundreds of women who endured and survived war and it’s ancillary experiences of loss, pain and unimaginable hardship.”
