ISun-Aug16-attawayf you are a Venice local or you have the slightest knowledge about the LA art scene, you are most probably familiar with the art of Attaway.

For the past 36 years, Attaway has been a constant in the Venice arts community. Well known for his massive ceramic/sculpture works, he is also a talented painter. His work has been included in the Venice Art Walk, the Venice Art Block, the Venice Art Crawl, etc. You can find his mosaic work on local buildings throughout the hood and on the famed Venice Boardwalk.

One of Attaway’s striking contributions to Venice is a twenty-five foot ceramic sculpture titled Dreams Come True. It is appropriately located in the children’s play area (down from Windward Avenue). Attaway once told me that his children were what truly inspired him to create. Attaway’s one of a kind ceramic works are in homes of well known celebrities all over the world.

The artist first moved into his Venice studio in 1979 and has been continuously creating ever since. As most Venetians know, the past couple of years have brought tumultuous landlord/tenant disputes within the community, due to the gentrification of Venice. However, although Attaway was directly impacted, a consensual agreement has been made, and Attaway has chosen to celebrate his time in Venice. Attaway has chosen to spotlight the positive changes in his life with his new series “Light” as he embarks on a new beginning.
