Downtown…

Sun-April-12-LAArtcore-AnngoodingLA Artcore presents a group show reflecting the polished painting techniques of four very distinct artists. The combination of these four artists promises something sure to satisfy anyone interested in Abstract painting.

Ann Gooding (see image) creates fascinating carved paintings using layers of paint to create texture, depth and eye stimulating movement, at times incorporating hard edge color fields to expand the composition.

Koojah Kim produces a steady output of abstract compositions that have something of sculptural element, with found materials merging into the surface, continually redefining herself as she negotiates groups and series in new ways.

Simon Rahimian is an abstract painter known for sincere, generous use of pure color in his easel paintings.

Parviz Yashar also has his background in Tehran, and works at a range of disciplines.Conversation With the Artist at 2PM

Also Downtown…in the other location…

LA Artcore presents a solo exhibit entitled “ASun-April12-LAARTCORE-UC APR INVITE B EMANUELbeyance” by Los Angeles artist Babak Emanuel.

Emanuel’s paintings in this exhibit are comprised of a number of works in progress that are tightly-woven echoes of past bodies of work.

As is consistent with Emanuel’s exploration of concepts through material investigation and technical development, the overarching theme of the show illuminates and analyzes this communication whose sources and origins lie in human forms and sublimated visions.

Offramp Gallery celebrates “Patois,” a solo exhibition of works on paper by New York artist Robert Kushner.

SApril12-RobertKushner-TwoPinkRoses-2011ee image: Robert Kushner, Two Pink Roses, 2011, oil, gold leaf and acrylic on book pages, 18 1/4″ x 25″

In the more than 40 works in Patois, Kushner juxtaposes broad bands of gold leaf and gestural painted flowers with ephemera — including ancient texts in myriad languages, as well as musical scores, book covers, end papers, postage stamps and illustrations. He creates an exotic garden woven from many languages that ultimately speaks in one lively, unique voice.
