Vielmetter Los Angeles debuts two exhibitions – “Mary Kelly: Corpus,” and Paul Mpagi Sepuya’s “Daylight Studio / Dark Room Studio.” The exhibitions opened on September 3, 2022, but will run through October 15, 2022. Remember to check with the gallery for up-to-date covid protocols and guidelines – (proof of vaccination and masks MAY be required once again).

“Corpus” is an exhibition of Mary Kelly’s ambitious 1984-85 installation, originally made as the first part of a larger project titled Interim. This will be the first complete installation of Corpus, including all thirty panels, in the United States since 1990 when the entire Interim project was exhibited at the New Museum to broad critical acclaim. Kelly is one of the most influential feminists and conceptual artists working today, and our exhibition marks a rare occasion to view her iconic work of the 1980s in its entirety.

“Daylight Studio / Dark Room Studio” is the gallery’s second solo exhibition with Los Angeles-based artist, Paul Mpagi Sepuya. Using natural light or red “safelights” and props, Sepuya creates playful references to European and North American 19th century daylight studios and to the dark room – here referenced with a double-entendre as both the space where film is processed and printed and those dark rooms in which other forms of exposure and revelation occur.
