See below, several are in the same buidling, so take advantage of that. Plus we have several openings at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica as well.

In Highland Park (the Poppy Peak neighborhood)Feia celebrates its not-quite-inaugural exhibition, Demolition Derby – a show about impermanence, trust, and the soft violence of starting over and building anew. Set on the future site of Feia – currently a back garden and soon to be a brand new gallery space – and oriented around a soon-to-be-demolished shed, the show features 59 works by a large and global group of 58 artists working across media. The premise is simple and final: any artwork not collected by the time the demolition crew arrives will be placed in the shed and destroyed. Downtown

Band of Vices unveils new exhibitions tonight with an opening art party. Soil for Healing is by Los Angeles–based contemporary artist Victoria Cassinova. This is the artist’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. It features a new body of work that combines grief and the spirituality. Soil for Healing includes oil painting, mixed media and graphite.

Through the Looking Glass features new works by Remedios Patton. This is the Afro-Latina LA based artist’s fifth presentation and first solo exhibition with the gallery since her debut at just  17 years old. Finally Monica Ikegwu (b. 1998, Baltimore, MD) brings us New Growth which features new paintings utilizing an unconventional use of color. Art Party: 2-6pm; Band of Vices, 1700 S. In the same building (and the same floor)Ramekon O’Arwisters: Schism opens at Patricia Sweetow Gallery. The definition of the title means a fracture, division, disharmony in beliefs or rules by which we live and understand relationships, politics, religion, community.

The choice of the title is not so much a reflection of discord within O’Arwisters but an acknowledgement of chaotic shifts and swings in predictability and safety. The exhibition will spotlight the artists’ iconic sculpture, Black on Black; tapestries from the Bound in Black series. In  addition it will feature selections from a series of B&W self-portraits as well as new textile sculptures! The conversation takes place in conjunction with Robert Pruit: Corpus. The artist’s monumental portraits portray bodies draped with exquisite adornments, their gaze frequently obscured by layers of carefully arranged textiles, sculptural objects, and other ethereal substances. Luis De Jesus Los Angeles throws an opening art party for Frank Romero: California Dreaming and also Karla Diaz: Mal de Ojo (Evil Eye).

Frank Romero’s solo exhibition features new paintings alongside seminal works and includes painted and neon sculptures. This is a new milestone in the celebrated Chicano artist’s six-decade career. The exhibition will span Galleries 1 and 2. While Mal de Ojo brings us self-portraits by Karla Diaz. The images all sides of the artist’s identity. Moreover they include familial bonds and cultural heritage to her alter egos, and with them, her fears, hopes, and also dreams. Abigail Ogilvy Gallery debuts I Was Always Good, by Tallulah Dirnfeld. The exhibition features  a series of paintings that examine the quiet rituals of control and self-containment. Faceless, uniformed figures occupy tightly composed interiors. Neatly made beds, braided hair, polished chrome. Baert Gallery hosts an opening for Metabolizing Machine, Ai Makita’s first solo exhibition  with the gallery. Ai Makita is a Tokyo-based painter whose work explores the border of artificial and natural, drawing inspiration from the relationships between human technology and the sublime.

de boer Los Angeles celebrates artists Matthew Kirk as well as Saxon Quinn. This is the first solo exhibition of mixed-media wall works and sculpture by Matthew Kirk in Los Angeles. The exhibition’s title, In a Time of Darkness, This Is Wonderful News, captures the spiritual optimism embedded in Kirk’s process that leads with joy, clarity, and connection.

Saxon Quinn is an Australia-based artist whose practice threads material experimentation with personal recollection and cultural critique. The exhibition takes its title from a reimagined lyric in the song “Uno II” by the Viagra Boys—a phrase as absurd as it is intimate: “I found a crouton underneath a futon.
