Now if you are going to the Pick of the Week, the Blankenship Cabaret Theatre, downtown at the Alexandria Hotel, you may want to stop by the Brewery Artwalk.

It starts today and continues through Sunday. There over 100 studios open to the public and it’s always a fun event.

In case, you’ve never been, the Brewery Arts Colony is an Artist Studio/live-work complex converted from the industrial buildings of a former Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery, and bottling plant. It is now home to over 300 artists and arts-related businesses.

The Brewery is a pretty large space, with a wonderful 1920s vibe.

Take advantage of this chance to check out the amazing artist spaces…with the orginal steel doors, railroad tracks which run throush some units, hanging beds, old classic railings, etc. Each unit is very different….I just love this (I live in a famous 1920s building off Venice Beach). It’s like one big artist commune.

Altervision 3D (one of my favorite exhibitions)  will be featured this year, showing off the work of artist, Debi Cable.

The Brewery Artwalk is free to attend, but admission is $5 for A3D , an all day entrance pass to inspire your imagination, great for kids of all ages! Barbara West at the Brewery is a series of rotating exhibitions, developed by Teale Hatheway, taking place at Barbara’s, the restaurant/bar hidden in the heart of the Brewery Arts Complex.

Today enjoy Intangible Mass a selection of recent paintings by Julia Pinkham. Enjoy tasty beer and food for sale here.

Pinkham’s current series of abstract paintings in mixed media and acrylic on canvas are inspired by natural forms and in particular, the ocean.

Stop into Kim Barry’s studio at West Eleven, 642 Moulton Ave. Welcome 2012 will be on view, which features the Dream Map a 20′ x 10′ map created out of play money. This project started back in January continues over the course of the year, 2012, it will be transformed by individuals personal dreams from all over America.

Skidmore Contemporary Art presents Compass & Line featuring artist Robert Townsend. Known for his Poprealisim, Robert Townsend’s paintings offer a classic view of what might have been. Simply stated in oil and watercolor, Robert’s work brings to mind a simpler time, all the while allowing the use of color to draw attention towards basic primal images.

Also at Shoshana Wayne Gallery, artist, Mounir Fatmi will be celebrated with a second exhibition at the gallery. Kissing Circles, proposes an encounter between two classic Hollywood films: Modern Times by Charlie Chaplin and Casablanca, by Curtiz.

Mounir Fatmi has been working for several years with this universal shape, which is explored through a wide range of fields, including visual art- from Duchamp and his rotoreliefs, to another modernist artist, Sonia Delaunay.  Fatmi, currently lives and works between Paris and Tangier. In the project room is the exhibition, Our Hands Will Eventually Destroy Everything Beautiful, featuring new works on paper from Fumi Nakamura.
