Fabien Castanier Gallery presents “Multifarious Abstraction,” the first group exhibition of the year. WSat-May16-2015-Wildingcran-AustinIrvingilding Cran Gallery hosts a walk through and discussion in conjunction with its current exhibition, “Not An Exit.” The solo exhibition features the art of Los Angeles based photographer Austin Irving. This exhibition marks Irving’s first show at the gallery.

“Not An Exit” is a collection of large format photographs that Irving has been compiling since 2007. The subjects for the series are doorways and hallways, liminal spaces intended for movement that somehow appear impenetrable. Maze-like optical illusions occur when the linear elements align to simultaneously flatten and expand the two dimensional picture-plane. As Irving explains, “We are going somewhere and yet – there seems to be no way out.”

Sat June20-Fringe“I’m Not From Here” is a quirky, modern day adventure tale about survival in the 21st century that includes original music and audience participation.

The tour-de-force performance by Jessica Proksa includes original music, conceptual, wearable art, and draws in audience members to become part of the performance. “I’m Not From Here,” features Sunny, her alter ego Sylax (a time traveling explorer trapped in outer space), and his “space suit,” more a character than a prop. It is a physical manifestation of outer protection and inner vulnerability.
