Well it’s time for the Weekend Update….ooh baby, mama’s got a heck of a hangover. We had a great time at the cinema bar last night….the music was jumpin and the wine was flowin’ good times all around. Thanks to everyone that came out…good to everyone up dancin’ too.
Pick of the Week is this Saturday, The HARC Foundation’s Benefit Gala at Gebert Gallery. “Command Performance,” a contemporary arts salon benefit event Saturday February 4th at 2:00 pm. The gala benefit and performance will be held at Gebert Gallery located at 1345 Abbot Kinney Ave (just west of California Ave) in Venice 90291.

The event will include a concert, silent auction of artwork and a reception with wine and anitipasti. Valet parking and free parking is available in rear lots between Abbot Kinney and Electric Ave.

Created in 1990 by Susan M. Marchese, The HARC Foundation (Help Artists & Rehabilitate Children) was created with two purposes. The first one is to discover, support, promote and present emerging creative artists from all art disciplines. Secondly, to promote the use of the creative arts as a therapeutic science in the rehabilitation of abused and neglected children. See image to left…Susan Marchese with actor Elliot Gould.
When asked why she started the Foundation Marchese explains, “As a creative artist my entire life, I have always been aware of the lack of support for individual emerging creative artists in the United States. Everyone expects a creative artist to have a day job and create at night. They don’t realize that creativity, the brain and physical energy are drained, basically non-existent, after laboring at another job for 8 to 10 hours.” Pianist, Markus Pawlik, right.
Each year, The HARC Foundation puts on exclusive presentation events featuring the artists that are chosen as the winners of The HARC Awards. Several lucky creative artists every year receive $2,500 to help further their careers, allowing them to continue on their creative path and follow their passion. However, funding has grown slimmer. Marchese talks about her latest endeavor. “COMMAND PERFORMANCE” was created to help HARC raise much needed funding. Since the economy has affected corporate sponsorship in recent years, Marchese decided to take a more aggressive approach to fundraising. “This is the first time we’ve ever held a benefit event like ‘COMMAND PERFORMANCE’, when well- known creative and performing artists have offered their talents to help HARC raise the funding needed to present their annual awards.” Composer & Pianist, Patricio da Silva, right.

This exciting event will offer a salon style performance featuring international artists Markus Pawlik, Patricio da Silva, Yevgeniy Milyavskiy, Rebecka Larsdotter and her band, Mahesh Balasooryia, Zane Musa, Dale Black, Zack Harmon as well as American poet/spoken word artist, Stacy Gnall. In addition to the concert, a silent auction of art will be held featuring the works of local creative artists Derrik Van Nimwegen, A.M. Rousseau, Darla Warner, Elana Kundell, Les Mayers, Carol Henry, Candace Biggerstaff, Leo Garcia, and Domenico Foschi.
