Our Pick of the week takes place in Culver City….which be bustling with art openings this Saturday, November 8. La Cienega Boulevard will be especially busy…Bustamante Gill Gallery presents “Beautiful Decay,” a mixed media art exhibit by LA-based artist Anyes Galleani. The opening reception takes place from 6-9pm.

I am a big fan of GalleanAnyes-Galleani-Bustamante-Gill-INVITE-FB505i’s work…her cityscapes are what first caught my eye. I can’t wait to see her new work…here is some info about the upcoming show from the artist and gallery.

This is Galleani’s first exhibit of abstract paintings and is quite a departure from her photography based mixed media art, although some of the key components are similar. The work is inspired by the various textures of urban and industrial decay, which have always fascinated her and that she used to photograph and incorporate in her photo montages. However, in these paintings the textures are created from scratch using paper, paint and foil to emulate worn-out walls and metal surfaces with vivid colors and jewel-like sparkles. Similarly to her previous art, the color choices include blue, yellow, pink, orange, silver and gold, and the work is created on wood panels in size varying between 24×24″ and 30×72″.

About the artist: Italian-born Anyes Galleani, who has a BFA from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, uses photo montage and collage to create unique images and mixed media art with an urban, contemporary style. Since the 90’s Anyes’ evocative work has been complementing homes, offices and public venues and has been featured in a variety of magazines and exhibits.
