he Word is ART, a unique new cooperative artisan gallery located at 9349 Venice Boulevard in downtown Culver City, is planning an exciting series of workshops and events for the month of October 2013 that will showcase the diverse group of artists who together make up The Word is ART.
Color Wash and Paint Classes with Pamela Harnois
Every Thursday (except 10/24) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm October 3, 10, 17, 31
Learn, participate and have fun with resident artists Pamela Harnois as she takes you through the essentials to create your own beautiful watercolor cards. Each week learn a different wash, make your own highly creative, personalized cards with your fellow artists, and have fun. You will create beautiful one-of-a-kind cards and more, Card stock and glue will be provided, but please bring your own paint, paper and brush supplies as linked below. Classes are held every Thursday evening (except 10/24) in October: 3, 10, 17, and 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Class: $150.00 for 4 sessions, or $45.00 per class.

Create and Paint Workshop with Pamela Harnois
Saturday, October 12 from 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm
Join in the fun! Learn, participate and have fun with local artist Pamela Harnois as she takes you through the essentials to create your own beautiful art. Learn about light and dark tones and painting techniques that will enliven your art skills. No experience necessary. Class Fee: $45
Supplies needed for class:
Paper: 9″ x 12″, French Arches watercolor block, 140lb Cold Press
Watercolor paints: Winsor-Newton, Cotman, Holbein, or Sennelier
Brushes: No. 12 large and No. 2 – round watercolor brushes
Other: Paper towels, No. 2 pencil, kneaded eraser, 2 containers for holding water, masking tape – at least ¾” wide, small natural sponge, small spray bottle

Luscious Layers with Kelly T.M. Killmer
Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
What do you get when you combine layers of paper, tape, pen work, stencils, stickers, stamps and self-expression? You get your own lusciously layered papers made by your own hand. We’ll be exploring hands-on a variety of ideas involving composition, design, color, shape, repetition, and more. Learn to create intricately rich layered papers that are uniquely your own, unlike any you will see in any paper store. Ready to be framed or hit the copy shop to make duplicates of your favorites. Students can bring their journals to work in as these pages can be glued or attached to the pages of their books. See supply list of items as linked below. Class: $75.00.
