Update: An announcement was recently made that the G2 Gallery will be closing. See my Huffington Post article about it. This will be the FINAL opening – the gallery will close on May 20, 2017. Thank you G2 for your longtime support of our environment. They will keep a strong prescence online at http://www.theg2gallery.com

The G2 Gallery will premiere two new exhibitions, “Andrei Duman: Aerials to Animals,” and “Emerging IX: Holly Peskin.” Both exhibitions open on March 21, 2017, with an opening reception taking place on March 25, from 6:30 to 9:00pm.

“Aerials to Animals” will feature a collection of photographs from the popular Los Angeles-based artist. This is Duman’s second solo exhibition at G2 and will feature a variety of works from the travel and aerial photographer, including bold aerial shots, photos of African animals, and debut images from the remote Galapagos Islands. Many of the aerials on view are of Owens Lake, located in Inyo Country, California. Once a vibrant wetland habitat, the area is now a mostly dry lake and salt bed characterized by red and pink salt-loving bacteria, a result of diverting the Owens River to the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913.

“The idea for this exhibit was initially inspired by Andrei’s aerial photography,” says Curator Monika Basse. “It’s exciting to capture nature in such an abstract way. Andrei’s photos from his recent trip to the Galapagos showcase the breadth of his work. Born in Romania and educated in England, Duman has traveled to more than 70 countries in pursuit of photography. As a Phase One Photographer, Duman shot all images from his recent trip on the company’s flagship XF iQ3 100MP model, which enabled him to create the accurate and detailed prints on view at G2.

“Emerging IX: Holly Peskin,” G2’s annual emerging exhibit showcases work from rising talents. For its ninth installment, local artist Holly Peskin will present predominately black and white avian photography of Southern Californian birds in all their glory. Peskin’s interest in photography began at an early age. Having a natural eye for composition, her photographs garnered immediate attention, winning the California State Fair Photography Competition at age fourteen. It wasn’t until five years ago that Peskin began developing her photography skills in earnest, investing in professional equipment, attending workshops, and learning advanced techniques.
