In Hollywood…Galerie Lakaye debuts Art Conquers All: Lesly Pierre Paul and the Students of his New Vision Art School. The group show features paintings by international Haitian artist Lesly Pierre Paul. In addition, artworks created by the painter’s students from his art school will be on view. Ages of the student artists range from 5-17 years in age The opening art party was held on Saturday, March 16, 2024. However, the show runs through May 11, 2024.

The Grand Rue neighborhood of Port-au-Prince Haiti has acquired a reputation as a must-visit art spot. It is an area where people go to have their cars and trucks repaired; but it is also home to the ongoing Ghetto Biennale, an international art fair, and an unexpected site of multiple artist studios creating an unprecedented output of paintings, sculpture, and multimedia works despite the dangerous, violent, and chaotic situation on the ground.

Founded in 2016 by international artist Lesly Pierre Paul, a dynamic artist who introduced a new style and genre to the Haitian art paradigm, the school is undeniably successful in the online marketplace and continues to show that regardless of the often-unstable political environment in Haiti, its artists push on, creating work with no guaranty that they will find an audience for their work. “No one dares come to our part of town anymore to buy our work,” says Lesly Pierre Paul, “and there are no tourists or even people from the NGO community anymore on which we can rely, but we keep on creating; making art is what we do!”
