In GlendaleSow & Tailor debut The Longest Cornrow, a live performance by Los Angeles based artist Devin Troy Strother. The performance will take place June 6 – June 9, with an artist reception on Saturday (see June 8 listings). The Longest Cornrow, delves deeply into themes intrinsic to Devin Troy Strother’s practice, encompassing identity, heritage, aesthetics, and personal maintenance. This work scrutinizes traditional practices related to beauty, presentation, and cultural stereotypes. By employing relational aesthetics, the performance encourages active participation, creating an interactive experience for viewers. Hollywood/Melrose District

Tappan celebrates Close Crush, a two-person exhibition by Cheryl Humphreys and Mike McMullen. The exhibition title offers a double meaning. The name both refers to the unseen magical moment when the inked plate meets paper, or rather an adoration, pointing to the early part of Humphreys and McMullen’s relationship, and their decision to create a family. The Fahey/Klein Gallery offers an opening art party for a two-person exhibition Anatomy of Devotion: Works by George Platt Lynes and Günter Blum.

The photographs on display explore varying relationships between artist and muse and the intimate and complex interactions that fuel creative expression. Both Platt Lynes and Blum utilize photography to investigate a more profound expression of sexuality and the concept of desire through their subjects. The Whitefire Theatre presents Lion Eyes. The play tells the story about a young actress from Iowa.
