At Bergamot Station…Galerie XII Los Angeles celebrated the opening of Los Angeles in the Sixties by Joey Tranchina on February 24, 2024. The exhibition runs through March 30, 2024.

The solo show features Tranchina’s photographs of Los Angeles when he first arrived, This is the city that he discovered as a young man.
“Johnny Weismuller Jr., son of a famous athlete and actor, was just hangin’ out with friends, a familiarity foreign to a kid in cut-off jeans; I didn’t feel like I’d fallen off the back of a turnip truck but I didn’t exactly fit in either. Sensing my discomfort, John looked at me and laughed: “Joey, Joey… this is Los Angeles, you can be anyone you want to be in LA. Go. Go! Get down there on the hard sand and walk on your hands…go as far as you can.” With the rush of dizzying exhilaration that produced, I felt like I almost belonged in LA — a feeling I haven’t forgotten in 50 years.” Joey Tranchina

ABOUT GALERIE XII
Galerie XII, founded by Valerie-Anne Giscard d’Estaing in 2007 in Paris focuses on contemporary photography. The editorial line of the gallery centers on narrative photography. It strives to promote artists working on new forms of the media as well as focusing on a strong narrative sensibility.
In addition, the gallery supports the work of artists with a multidisciplinary approach to painting, sculpture and collages.
Galerie XII Los Angeles opened in 2018 and is located at Bergamot Arts Center, Santa Monica. Since its opening, the gallery has received critical acclaim and consistently showcases four to five solo exhibitions a year in each location, as well as group shows. It participates to several Art Fairs such as Photo Basel, Photo London, Art Paris, Moderne Art Fair, AIPAD, etc.
SInce inception, the gallery has been representing such well known international photographers/artists from Mona Kuhn to Paolo Ventura, Margaret Lansink to Anja Niemi, Benno Graziani, Patrizia Mussa, Jean-Marie Périer among many others.
