Jaja’s African Hair Braiding
Center Theatre Group stages Jaja’s African Hair Braiding at the Mark Taper Forum from October 1 to November 9, 2025. Written by Tony-nominated playwright Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Whitney White, the Tony-nominated and Obie-winning director, the production highlights one of the season’s most anticipated plays.
Co-produced with Arena Stage, Berkeley Rep, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, and also La Jolla Playhouse, the show unites national talent. Additional support comes from the S. Mark Taper Foundation and the Perenchio Foundation.
Set in a bustling Harlem salon, the play captures the lively energy of West African braiders and their clients. During one sweltering summer day, love sparks, secrets unfold, and ambitions rise.
