Kosoff’s work is often inspired by her surroundings, an article in the newspaper, a dream. or curiosity about a subject. After she learned about the history of Valentine’s Day, she created her latest piece entitled, Saint Valentina. Kosoff says, “What inspired me was discovering that while there were at least three male Saint Valentines throughout history, there was only one female, Saint Valentina. The ancient Latin name Valentina means strong, vigorous and healthy.”

In Hollywood…

From punk venues in LA to the runways of Paris to the slums of Bangladesh, artist and musician Arrington de Dionyso’s bold imagery has been invoking mythological beings and dream states across the globe.

After nearly twenty years of creating album covers, zines, and concert posters, his “Angels and Dragons in Deep Conversation” found themselves in collaboration with Saint Laurent last Spring. Recently, his interest in sustainable, equitable fashion design and production has led him to artisan cooperatives in Southeast Asia, where he is currently working in collaboration with artists from the region. This Spring, his lions, dragons and “Priapic Maenads” visit Los Angeles for a month-long celebration in OUROBOURIC ECHOES.

Tonight’s opening of “OUROBOURIC ECHOES” will feature a live musical performance by Arrington de Dionyso with his hand-made wind instruments.

Save the Dates…March 24th, for an art talk from 7pm–9pm; Closing reception and film screening: March 25; THE RITE OF SPRING ecstatic drawing performance: March 27, noon–8pm

In Los Feliz…

LaFri-March4-Laluzapalooza2016 Luz De Jesus Gallery proudly presents its annual juried group exhibition, LALUZAPALOOZA. This gigantic, no-theme show features works from some of the freshest and most relevant artists working today.

Each year the gallery receives tens of thousands of submissions from commercial illustrators, graphic designers, tattooists, scenics, students, street taggers, animators and working gallery artists.  This year there are more than 270 pieces, making this the most exclusive selection of tastefully, jam-packed, salon-style exhibited works in Post-Pop. There are some familiar names from our ever-growing roster of feature artists, but an overwhelming percentage of the work this year will come from a brand new batch of previously undiscovered, emerging talent. Will you be a patron of the next great generation?

In the three decades since Billy Shire first opened La Luz de Jesus Gallery upstairs from Soap Plant on the corner of Melrose and Martel, the zeitgeist has caught up–but just barely. La Luz has launched the careers of most of the figurative, narrative artists that matter, and stood as the cornerstone of Los Feliz since relocating to 4633 Hollywood Blvd. just over 20 years ago. This Friday, you’ll have a chance to discover the artistic voice of this generation–and after your purchase you’ll have bragging rights for life.
