Entitled “Naked Edges,” the pieces use line and color to represent changing spaces and moments in time.

Dr. Marks-Tarlow is both an artist and a clinical psychologist in private practice for over 25 years. Within psychotherapy, she achieves deep transformation by delving into the fertile spaces between therapist and patient. Through this body of work, on display for the first time, Dr. Marks-Tarlow explores fertile spaces between artist and model, with paradoxical boundaries both open and closed simultaneously.

Dr. Marks-Tarlow has written four books. Her two most recent, Clinical Intuition in Psychotherapy (2012, Norton) and Awakening Clinical Intuition (2014, Norton), underscore the importance of play, imagination, and creativity within psychotherapy. Her books contain unique illustrations serving as a right-brain method of depicting psychological concepts. Along with her figurative pieces, several illustrations will also be exhibited.

Dr.July8-TerryMarksTarlowe-Unbearable-Lightness-1 Marks-Tarlow is a Renaissance woman with diverse interests and a passion for the transformative power of creativity. She sits on the Advisory Board of the Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment (founded by John Raatz, Eckhart Tolle, Jim Carrey). She wrote the libretto for “Cracked Orlando,” an opera composed by Julliard teacher Jonathan Dawe. Dr. Marks-Tarlow strives to embody the balanced life she prescribes by drawing, writing, dancing ballet and jazz; practicing and occasionally teaching yoga.

An Artist Reception will be held at 7:30 pm on July 12 including a talk on “The Creative Edge: Personal Reflections,” plus a live performance of electrical violin-viola music composed and performed by Tony Selvage.
