“Good People” written by David Lindsay-Abaire, and directed by Ann Hearn Tobolowsky opened at Theatre 40 on December 8, 2021. Produced by David Hunt Stafford for Theatre 40, the show will run through the end of the year.

Margie is a woman from the working-class neighborhood of South Boston. She’s a single mom caring for a grown, severely autistic daughter. Margie has recently been fired and faces eviction. Her buddies at the local church Bingo game suggest that she look up an old fling and ask him for a job. Mike, the former beau in question, has gotten out of South Boston, become an M.D., and moved to the tony suburb of Chestnut Hill with his younger, beautiful Black wife and their daughter. When Margie arrives at his doorstep, what will he do?

In a comedy-drama rich with humor, Good People rub against some hot-button issues, income inequality and racial politics among them.

The cast includes Alison Blanchard, Scott Facher, Michael Kerr, Suzan Soloman, Mariko Van Kampen and Charlotte Williams. Set design: Jeff G. Rack. Costume design: Michèle Young. Lighting design: Derrick McDaniel. Sound design: Nick Foran. Are Margie and Mike and the people in their orbits good people? See Good People and make your own determination.
