The artist paints dreamlike scenes filled with texture and tension. Although her figures may be perceived as calm, each canvas stirs with movement. Kimeze utilizes a foundation of suede matboard, then combines dry chalk, oil pastel as well as wet paints. She then merges her mediums into the fabric. The technique gives Kimeze’s paintings an atmosphere of indeterminacy. Therefore spotlighting her subject while creating a shared experience. In addition her compositions include arches, foliage, and shadows. These recurring forms mark thresholds and internal shifts. This exhibition follows Kimeze’s first UK solo exhibition at South London Gallery, ‘Between Wood and Wheel’ (31 January – 11 May 2025).
