Hermosa
This is your last chance to catch Five Muses at the Gallery of Hermosa, as it closes tonight. Be sure to check out the work of Jen Hellman. We featured Jen on our sister site – EatTravelGo.com an art inspired travel site. She is an incredibly talented artist and photographer. She wrote two articles for ETG one features Jen Hellman in Peru, and the second is Jen Hellman’s Africa Bucket List Adventure.
Five Muses features additional artists Fumie Coello, Debbie Giese, Eileen Oda, and Anabella Rainer. I stopped in this past Friday for the closing art party. We had a great time. My husband and I ended up taking the whole day off and enjoyed a staycation in Hermosa. Read my article Playing Hooky in Hermosa. We all need a break sometimes. I encourage you all to take a day off and partake in all that LA has to offer.

See the above image by Jen Hellman. “While driving the California coast, I pulled over to photograph the Bixby Bridge just as immense fog rolled in, obscuring the far side and swallowing the landscape beyond. The structure appeared suspended in space, its roadway vanishing into white—a road to nowhere, or everywhere.” Additional artists include: Fumie Coello, Debbie Giese, Eileen Oda, and Anabella Rainer. The group show features paintings as well as photography. Hours: 11am-4pm; Gallery of Hermosa, 138 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach CA 90254; https://www.galleryofhermosa.com

Santa Monica
The Fantasticks continues tonight at the Ruskin Group Theatre for a limited run. This enchanting multi-award-winning musical, is still to this day the longest running off Broadway play. This is a wonderful show. I saw it when it when I lived in NYC (a very long time ago). The original off-Broadway production opened in 1960 and ran for 42 years. Although I didn’t catch the original cast (Hey, I’m not that old), I did thoroughly enjoy it.
Director Elina de Santos takes the story into the 21st century, keeping the same wit, sensitivity and beauty of the original story. Her staging brings fresh insight with an imaginative flair to a cherished classic. Actors include: Michael D. Cohen, Danny Bernardo, Rhett Hemingway, Kiel Kennedy, Sophie Pollono, Michael Redfield, Raven Scott, John Wuchte, and Silas Shultz. Run time is approximately 120 minutes (including one 10-minute intermission).

The show runs through August 24, 2025; Performance: 2pm; Tickets are $45 (student/senior discounts $30 and groups 10+ $33) and can be purchased in advance at www.ruskingrouptheatre.com or by calling (310) 397-3244. Free parking available on-site. Ruskin Group Theatre, 3000 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90405; https://www.ruskingrouptheatre.com/

The Hollywood Bowl hosts the final performance of Jesus Christ Superstar with the music world’s top performers for three nights. This historic show is timeless, written by Tim Rice (lyrics) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (music), so an impressive cast has been lined up. It includes Cynthia Erivo as Jesus, Adam Lambert as Judas, Phillipa Soo as Mary Magdalene, Josh Gad as King Herod, and Raúl Esparza as Pontius Pilate and lots more. Director Sergio Trujillo also choreographs, while Stephen Oremus is the musical director.
This was a fantastic show. I attended the opening night – view our ETG Instagram to see videos of some amazing performances. BTW – there are so many great acts performing at the Bowl this season. Visit LAArtParty’s Hollywood Bowl 2025 Season Feature for more info. Event: 8pm; Gates Open: 6pm; Admission starts at $202; The Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90068; https://www.hollywoodbowl.com
