Beyond the Streets celebrates Estevan Oriol’s birthday with an art party! The event takes place in conjunction with its current exhibition titled Estevan Oriol and Teen Angel: Dedicated to You. Furthermore, the art party will feature a book release and signing of L.A. BLOCKS, a 200+ page collection of Oriol’s photography as well as a live drawing by Mike Meds. Timothy Hawkinson Gallery holds an opening art party for Kim Schoenstadt and David McDonald: Non-Linear Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems.
The artworks of both of these artists examine the relationship of color to form. Moreover, their respective sculptures (McDonald) and paintings (Schoenstadt) offer a cavalcade of evidence making color feel like a raw physical ore, a medium unto itself. In doing so the artists spark a discussion on how perspective can influence perception. Hot Throb is a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by New York-based Adam Linn that depict contorted bodies and familiar objects such as stiletto shoes, locks and also animal appendages as throbbing lifeforms. Breaking Tradition: Late 20th Century Malian Wedding Textiles is an exhibition featuring eight brightly colored strip-woven, figurative textiles. Also close by, later in the night…Head to a Hollywood Bowl summer tradition – Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks. This is the second and final night featuring a majestic annual event that I have attended. The music is fantastic and the fireworks are out of this world. Conductor Otto Tausk opens the show with the regal Polonaise from Euguene Onegin. The Sleeping Beauty Suite and Other masterpieces will also be performed. Of course the climax of the show will be the stupendous fireworks synchronized to the music of Tchaikovsky and the 1812 Overture featuring the Trojan Marching Band.
