The artists contributing work to the auction view the fundraiser as an opportunity to give back to LAAA, an organization that has played a critical role in the professional growth of tens of thousands of artists. All proceeds benefit LAAA and the Los Angeles’ emerging artist community.

One such artist is Frederika B. Roeder, who said she was excited to be featured in the exhibition. Steeped in history dating back to pre-Roman times, Italy’s Calanchi Valley is known for its dramatic, chalky cliffs, azure skies, tile-roofed medieval villages and laid-back outdoor life-style. During her visits, Frederika experienced a strong connection to the region’s similarities to both the geography and culture of Southern California.

Her painting, Calanchi Valley, Civitella d’Agliano, Italy, reflects the richness of the region’s history through the depth and drama of its color, the influence of gold, and the inevitability of change – as history moves forward into new millennia. Two of Frederika’s paintings from her time in the Calanchi Valley are part of the permanent public collection at Academia Luciana, Civitella D’Agliano, Italy. Curator: Christian Lucian Hamsea.
