South Central LA…It’s the second and final day of the 42nd annual Watts Towers Festival this weekend. Today’s event features the Simon Radia Watts Towers Jazz Festival. The LA Opera presents Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini for a select number of performances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Music Center. Today’s performance starts at 2pm. Moreover, the new production was originally staged by Spanish-Uruguayn director Mario Gas for the Teatro Real in Madrid. The reimagined plot takes place at a 1930s film studio, with the opera performance captured by onstage camera operators and projected onto screens hanging above the stage.
