In Downtown LA…Los Angeles-based African-American artist and writer Tony Puryear’s “gankstas!™ – Know Your Thug” will be featured. Inspired by the election, the artist has created an ongoing, online series of satiric political portraits with stinging commentary.
Puryear portrays the Trump administration as a crime family wreaking havoc on our nation – and the world. Accompanying text, written by Puryear, identifies each subject’s particular brand of mayhem, weaving together shuddering tales of corruption that have weighted down every news cycle since the election. Prints and paintings of select images from the series will be shown for the first time January 6 – 7, 2018 at a pop-up exhibition at Jason Vass in Los Angeles. The Pacific Standard Time Festival: Live Art LA/LA is an international celebration of art and performance throughout greater Los Angeles, with more than 200 Latin American and Latino artists and performers creating adventurous events at more than 25 indoor and outdoor locations.

As a participating gallery in the region-wide Getty Foundation endeavor, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, Jack Rutberg Fine Arts will present two exhibitions. “Rico Lebrun in Mexico” and “Francisco Zuniga: Sculpture & Drawings.”
“Rico Lebrun in Mexico,” focuses attention on the period when the renowned artist moved to San Miguel de Allende in 1952 to teach art at the Instituto Allende. There a new generation of Mexican artists was introduced to and inspired by Rico Lebrun, who distinguished himself not only as a painter and compelling draftsman, but also as a formidable muralist.
