Ten Women Gallery on Montana (1128 Montana Ave Santa Monica CA 90403) invites you for Valentine’s Tea!

Sunday February 9thFeb1-TenWomenpix1
2pm-5pm

Many of the artists will be at the Gallery for this event, to greet you and answer your questions about their art. It’s an opportunity to meet the faces behind the art in the Gallery and find out how it’s made.

The Valentine’s Day window is themed “Hearts and Lovers” inspiring the artists to make custom art in their own medium. One such artist is Elaine Levi who makes fabric bags and purses. She made this sweet, heart purse for the window.

“It was probably my Canadian roots and long cold winters that initially attracted me to the sewing machine – a warm indoor activity that provided hours of working with scraps of fabric. After moving to California I studied pattern making and draping. I love working with the rich color and texture of vintage, retro barkcloth and tapestry fabrics and I bring these pieces to the public with the hope that you too will enjoy my labor of love and passion for detail.” Elaine Levi.

For February 16th through March 1st the window display is all Kara Taub with her knits and hand woven scarfs.

Kara received her training at the Middlesex University in England. After receiving her degree in Constructed Textiles in 1996 she established her own studio based weaving practice in London, which was then her home.

NTenWomen-Feb2014-2ow based in Santa Monica, she specializes in creating fine, woven and knitted accessories in such lightweight fabrics as silk, cashmere, bamboo, and filament yarns. With a preference for natural materials, clean contemporary designs, and an exceptional sense of color, her fabrics not only look stylish and sophisticated, but also feel wonderful to wear. Intricate surface patterning and color combinations play off contrasts of light and dark, bright and pale, shiny and matte. Attention to detail is paramount and while her fabrics are created on a knitting machine, hand and power looms, all are hand finished.

Her brand, KTWF, includes knitted scarves and lacy lightweight sweaters using 100% Bamboo Fiber. The ultra-softness and unique qualities of Bamboo, have made her signature Two-Tone Scarves as well as Baby Blankets and Hats as huge success.

Ten Women Gallery is a vibrant artist’s co-operative gallery showcasing 24 local women artists. The gallery is located at 1128 Montana Ave in Santa Monica. Hours 10am – 6pm daily.
