In Santa Monica…

Enjoy Sunday by the beach. The Santa Monica Conservancy celebrates Julia Morgan, the architect who created the cohesive grace of the grouping of buildings built in the late 1920’s by William Randolph Hearst for his paramour Marion Davies, her ‘beach house’. The event takes place from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m.

At 11 a.m., special guest Victoria KastneSun-Mar1-Julia-Morgan-panelscan2r will present Julia Morgan: A Closer Look. Kastner, a historian at Hearst Castle, and author of a definitive trilogy of books on that remarkable facility, has lectured extensively, including at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; LACMA, and the Getty.

From 12 – 2 p.m. guests may visit the Marion Davies Guest House and view the historic pool to see Morgan’s work first hand. Morgan’s masterful accomplishments were honored posthumously in 2014 by the American Institute of Architects with a gold medal.

The event is free, but reservations are requested. For more information and to make a reservation, visit JuliaMorganLegacyEvent.eventbrite.com or call 310-458-4904.
