DSun-June5-LAArtcoreowntown…

LA Artcore is pleased to announce a tandem-solo exhibit with Roger Chouinard and Sandra Lauterbach that uncovers both artists’ unique approaches to materiality. Chouinard’s over-fifty-year career in advertising, illustration, animation and concept design informs his assemblages of an animated and imaginative character.

Chouinard’s process looks to a sense of aesthetic and formal possibility in everyday and found objects. His constructions produce an innate humanity that is at the core of Chouinard’s art.

Contrastingly, Sandra Lauterbach’s textile constructions are inspired by nature and an organic process. Lauterbach’s abstract structures form self-contained worlds that appear to continually evolve.

In little Tokyo…At L.A. Artcore’s other location…

Sun-June5-LAArtcore-JaeHwa-YooEnjoy a solo exhibition featuring Jae Hwa Yoo’s acrylic paintings. The L.A.-based artist has amassed a four decade-long body of work that has explored abstraction through the presence and absence of material and form. Yoo’s current body of work investigates parallel aesthetic discourses of both process-based art and Minimalism, both of which are inflected with the inner dialogues of the artist. Yoo’s process amasses individual vertical marks covering most of the canvas’ expanse and suggest handwriting, upright figures or sticks. And yet these notations are also markers of time. This dialogue between symbolism and utility is contained and set inside the canvas, between wide margins that echo the painting’s borders. In effect, the questions that Yoo’s paintings proffer are found in an awareness or knowledge of one’s self within one’s physical environment.
