Venice/Marina Del Rey
Venice Arts Gallery hosts a closing art party for DOGTOWN: The Pups of Venice Beach and Their Humans by Dotan Saguy. The solo photography exhibition spotlights skaters, surfers, dogs, their owners, as well as the spirit of Venice Beach. Published by Kehrer Verlag, DOGTOWN is Saguy’s third monograph.

The artist is known for documenting the culture of Venice, and also its street life. The monograph and select prints will be available for sale during the opening of Venice Arts’ Gallery exhibition. Also Saguy will donate a percentage of all sales from the opening to support Venice Arts’ free photography programs for low-income residents. Downtown
The LA Opera presents Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini for a select number of performances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Music Center. The new production was originally staged by Spanish-Uruguayn director Mario Gas for the Teatro Real in Madrid. The reimagined plot takes place at a 1930s film studio, with the opera performance captured by onstage camera operators and projected onto screens hanging above the stage.

DTLA
Secret Walls kicks off a tour in LA. Its first art battle is named The Art of Competition. And it will be held at the Shoe Surgeon and celebrates street art. Artists include: Dreyfus, Blue, Hannah Eddy, Bakeneko, Wotto, and also Emily Ding.

First, artists will form teams. Then the artists will be provided supplies to showcase their work against a giant wall as their canvas. Supplies will include: Posca paint markers, paint brushes, spray paint, paint rollers, and more. All of this happens with a time limit amidst a roaring crowd and a tunes provided by local DJs.
