Kamil Vojnar utilizes many paradoxical elements in his work. His pieces have a gritty, yet delicate and elegant feel. They are ethereal, yet remarkably tangible.

In his latest work, Brock continues to explore unwonted (unusual, unexpected) imagery from everyday life. In all his imagery, printed exclusively on metal, Brock shows the unique vision that has characterized his work.

Elizabeth Szymczak captures the dynamism of motion, whilst maintaining an exemplary level of realism. She paints out of a love for dance and the expressing of emotion through movement. Szymczak’s paintings render what the figures are attempting to evoke.

Sat-Mar7-CraigKrull-AstridPrestonThen head to the Craig Krull Gallery (B-3) for an opening reception celebrating the art of Astrid Preston.

Astrid Preston’s work is a testament to the fact that landscapes do not exist in Nature but rather, only in the mind’s eye. While her images employ elements of place, they are also reconstructions that manifest personal perspectives or conceptual themes.

In this way, she is a kindred spirit to Edward Hicks and his Peaceable Kingdoms, Giorgio de Chirico and his vacant metaphysical piazzas, and René Magritte and his surreal scenarios. On Reflections, the title of Preston’s new group of paintings, refers to her subject matter, but it also suggests her cerebral processing and interpretation of nature.

ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY premieres “FAULTLINE”Sat-Mar7-RobertBerman-GaryPalmer an anamorphic installation by Gary Palmer.

Palmer’s drawings are large scale site-specific illusions in urban places, but in this case his street art is placed inside the gallery.

A visual illusion bending our perception of reality leaks beyond the confines of the gallery space like street art tamed and then liberated. Part drawn illusion, part physical form, the installation steps outside the gallery walls. The floor, as if fractured by the shift of tectonic plates, crumbles away into a deep chasm but closer inspection reveals a sensitively articulated line drawing.
