INCOGNITO, Santa Monica Museum of Art’s annual event is back, this unusual high-energy event offers original artworks for sale at incredible prices. Trusting one’s instincts has led many to victory as each work is signed on the back and the artists’ identities are revealed only after purchase. See image to left, Emmy Rossum, Shanola Hampton and Amy Smart at last year’s INCOGNITO.
More than 650 artworks will be available by 500-plus leading, mid-career and emerging contemporary artists. As always, every 8″ x 10″ original will cost the same low price. In Santa Monica, Kayne Griffin Corcoran presents an opening receptions for artists, Michel Auder and Giulia Piscitelli. Ten films and several photographs by Auder from the 1960s to the present will be on view in the West Galleries. Piscitelli’s exhibition includes recent drawings, sculpture, tapestries and photographs.

Or in Culver City, The Katherine Cone Gallery celebrates women artists with California Girls, a group exhibition of emerging contemporary California women artists, including Kelly Berg (see image), Jennifer Celio, Olivia Hill and Vanessa Prager. The opening reception happens tonight.
The exhibition is titled “California Girls” in honor of Judy Chicago’s experiment in the 1970ʼs with young California women artists working to become professional artists in a mostly male dominated art world. Thus, this show focuses on the young California women artists of today who are creating their own trails to blaze. The documentary video “Judy Chicago and the California Girls”*, which was Produced, Directed, and Edited by Judith Dancoff, will be displayed during the exhibition, as a homage to the young women artists of the past and a dedication to the future of young women artists and there role in today’s art world.

Also in Culver City, GMWAT holds an annual event showcasing artists interpretations of beloved Saturday morning cartoons. Curated by pop culture surrealist Steven Daily the exhibition features 80 confirmed artists, including Jhonen Vasquez (Invader Zim), Carlos Ramos, Jim Mahfood, Alex Pardee, Lou Pimentel, Brian Viveros, and more.

Carmichael Gallery presents My Turn, the first curatorial project by Los Angeles-based artist, Bumblebee.
