Take a fresh look at Venice through the eyes of acclaimed architect Marmol Radziner. Explore Venice during an intimate walking tour of Marmol Radziner designed homes and rediscover the colorful, unique and comforting place we call home. The tour benefits Venice Family Clinic, a community health center that provides quality, comprehensive medical care to over 24,000 people in need in Los Angeles.
Originally designed for Ron Radziner and his family, the 2,700-square-foot Glencoe Residence is a stepped two-story house designed to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior living spaces.
A recessed “L” shaped second story minimizes the street impact of the additional floor, while creating private and intimate outdoor spaces by bisecting the garden into front and rear yards. The master bedroom suite projects over the garden creating a covered patio below, expanding the living areas of the house beyond the exterior walls and inviting views of the landscape indoors. The natural tones of the home’s material palette reinforce the connection to the surrounding landscape.
Located on a narrow urban lot, this 2,800-square-foot prefabricated home is made up of fourteen modules. There are three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, a great room, a double-height kitchen, an office, and 700 square feet of outdoor living space. Large expanses of glass on the southern side of the structure fill the home with natural light and connect the interior and exterior.
This 3,700-square-foot home was designed for a family that spends considerable time outdoors. The living room and outdoor dining patio divide landscaped yard space along the western edge of the property into thirds. The primary volume of the home stands opposite, with floor-to-ceiling glazing blurring the distinction between indoors and outdoors.
About Marmol Radziner
Leo Marmol, FAIA, and Ron Radziner, FAIA, formed their partnership in 1989, launching a unique design-build practice led by architects. Since its inception, the Los Angeles-based firm, which established a satellite office in San Francisco in 2014, has developed a reputation for innovative design and precision in applying construction standards.
By adopting the role of the traditional “master builder,” Marmol Radziner integrates a variety of design services with construction capabilities. A team of architects, interior designers, landscape designers, metal fabricators, carpenters, furniture-makers, and construction crew possess a depth of knowledge and breadth of experience that cannot be found at a single-discipline firm.
Marmol Radziner creates projects that engage the surrounding environment and take a warm, textured approach to modernism that is elegant and timeless. Unique compositions of light, materials, and space, as well as rigorous attention to detail, have garnered projects for clients in the art and creative industries, such as artist James Turrell, art collector Eugenio Lopez, and fashion designer Tom Ford.
