Pick of the Week takes place this Saturday….at one of my favorite galleries.

InPOW G2 Aspen Ouray WR Venice….

The G2 Gallery will premiere American Grandeur, a black and white photography exhibit from acclaimed photographer Alan Ross, a former assistant Alan’s close relationship with Ansel Adams gave him an exclusive look into the processes and principles that made Adams one of the most masterful photographers of the past century.

Besides being Adams’s photographic assistant, Alan was also personally chosen by Adams to be the sole printer of the Yosemite Special Edition negatives. Alan has been printing this collection since 1975.

POW G2 Rockpoolandsurf WRAlan Ross is a master in his own right,” says G2 Gallery Director Jolene Hanson. “You can see the influences of Ansel in his work, but he has his own distinct aesthetic. He’s taken a bevy of knowledge and employed it in his own voice.”

Alan has translated the techniques he learned from Adams into a highly successful career as a photographer. He spent years capturing the black and white images of the West for American Grandeur, imbuing his work with a signature sense of stillness and fine detail.

“The American West is an amazing place to photograph,” says Alan Ross. “There is an example of just about every kind of terrain imaginable within relatively easy access.”

Also on view is at the gallery is Nature LA: Wanda Boudreaux, featuring mixed media Polaroid compositions and photographic works from local artist, Wanda Boudreaux.

BoudreaPOW G2 Boudreaux LouisianaTree11 WRux has worked in various media for 15 years, including photography, acrylic painting and pencil sketches.

Her exhibit at The G2 Gallery features manipulated photographs as well as pieces that meld together all the disciplines she has studied over the years.

“As a painter who loves photography, taking photographs started out as a way to create landscape and seascape reference materials for paintings,” says Boudreaux. “I became attracted to the immediacy of Polaroid, and I’m often compelled to leave my handmade, tangible mark bydrawing and painting on the resulting photographic prints.”
