So many incredible art parties this weekend. Don’t forget Venice Arts is having their 19 year anniversary party this Saturday as well.
You won’t want to miss the Pick of the week, which also takes place this Saturday and features the work of legendary artist, Ed Moses.
Patrick Painter Inc. presents New Works: The Crackle Paintings, an exhibition by Ed Moses. Located at Bergamot Station, Patrick Painter, Inc consistently offers impressive exhibitions.
Tonight’s opening will prove to be quite the art party, attracting the elite of the LA art scene to celebrate this iconic artist. Several galleries will be holding events, so be sure to get there early and take advantage of a bustling night at Bergamot.
I highly recommend this exhibition….I recently had a sneak preview at Ed’s studio. Simply brilliant. See photo from my iphone of the master himself at his Venice studio.
A renowned artist, the work of Ed Moses has been featured in prominent galleries across the globe. However, New Works: The Crackle Paintings marks Ed Moses’ first solo exhibition with Patrick Painter Inc.

Ed Moses’ six decade long career is distinguished by his continually evolving artistic process; in The Crackle Paintings we see a futher continuation of his process and aesthetic.
Moses began exhibiting at the legendary Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, and since this initial part of his career he has become an iconic Los Angeles art figure.
He has defined his career by dismissing the role of the artist and elevating the importance of the process of creating work through chance and experimentation.

True to form, Moses resists the urge to overthink or overwork these paintings. This tendency toward artistic exploration is precisely what keeps Moses’ career fresh and exciting. Moses has made a career of incorporating full-bodied, aggressive gestures into his work, which are inextricably tied to the result of the final paintings. His paintings are a seamless blend of intense physicality and aesthetics.
The Crackle Paintings offer the viewer a juxtaposition of color, texture and depth. In Gold Over Pink, the gold surface splits and exposes the underlying pink creating a tectonic surface of color and abstraction.

In Red Over Black, sporadic cracks and groves create a dynamic field of reds and blacks. While Moses perceives his color choices as more intuitive than calculated, there is a certain inherent energy in these paintings. These works demand attention from the viewer through their sheer size and electric color palette.
Ed Moses recently exhibited in Los Angeles: 1955-1985, Birth of an Artistic Capital, at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (2012). Moses was awarded an honorary Ph.D by Otis Art Institute in 1996.
